Mothering Sunday is next week. Instead of Parish Communion there will be a family Service at 11.00am. This year, appropriately, the service also falls on the Festival of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Mothers' Union will be involved in the service and we welcome the Diocesan President Angela O'Hare as our guest speaker. She will tell us something about her recent experiences with families in Africa. A new candlestand kindly donated by the Ladies Guild will also be dedicated.
During Lent instead of Evensong we will have the traditional sung service of Compline each Sunday evening at 6.30pm. It is hoped that this will bring a special devotional emphasis during this penitential season. The address this week will be "Settlement, Sovereigns and Schisms".
It has been decided that the Lent House Groups will meet together at the Rectory this Wednesday at 7.30pm. We will discuss the Sunday evening address (see above) and then at 9pm go over to Church for a said service of Compline.
Our Parish AGM will take place on Sunday April 22nd. The electoral roll will be revised from today - Sunday, March 11th until April 8th. Do check that your name is on the roll. If it is there is nothing further to be done. Names can be added during this period using the form provided. Nomination lists for Churchwardens, PCC Members, Sidesmen and women etc will be available from April 8th.
The next Lent lunch is at the Roman Catholic Church, DSJ from 12 noon on Saturday. A full list can be found in the porch. Please support this initiative and be generous.
You will be pleased to see that all the new tiles have now been laid. However please do not walk on the area yet as it will take some weeks to harden off.
A list has been placed at the back of Church for those who would like to donate lilies to decorate the Church at Easter in memory of loved ones.
This year's gathering, planned for 7 April at Passerham was transferred to Little Ponton because of refurbishment. Now, because of foot & mouth disease in the area, Little Ponton propose to postpone the gathering until May. The meeting at Repton for St Guthlacs day is also under review. More news to follow in the April magazine.
Unfortunately the foot & mouth outbreak has also meant that it would be inadvisable to bring Daisy the donkey to be part of our procession.
